Important Texas Consumer Warning

Homeowners Must Pay Their Insurance Deductibles

A contractor offering to waive, absorb, rebate or otherwise cover an insurance deductible should be treated as a serious warning sign. A deductible is part of the homeowner’s financial responsibility under the insurance policy and applicable Texas law.

It Is Not a Free Roof

A contractor who promises to cover the deductible may attempt to recover that money through reduced materials, installation shortcuts, inflated pricing or inaccurate billing.

False Information Creates Risk

Homeowners should not knowingly participate in false invoices, misleading statements or inaccurate information submitted in connection with an insurance claim.

Verify Before You Sign

Review the contract, estimate, deductible and payment terms carefully. Do not sign documents that contain information you know is false or misleading.

Why Request an RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor?

The RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor Program gives property owners another way to evaluate roofing professionals in a state that does not require roofing contractors to hold a state-issued license.

The RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor Program was developed to increase consumer protection and secure public confidence in the roofing industry by elevating the roofing contractor’s knowledge, skills and professionalism through voluntary self-regulation.

The “License” referenced here is provided through and fully managed by the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas. The Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation (TDLR) does NOT currently administer licensure for roofing contractors.

The Roofing Contractors Association of Texas requires that roofing contractors go through a rigorous screening and examination process before they can become licensed, and they must obtain yearly continuing education.

Both commercial and residential roofing contractors can become licensed. The principal goal of this voluntary licensing program is to increase contractor professionalism and consumer confidence in the roofing industry, as well as to assure homeowners, architects, developers and general contractors that their roofing contractor has met the program’s standards.

Important: An RCAT credential does not guarantee a contractor’s work or the outcome of a roofing project. Property owners should still review the company’s references, insurance, written proposal, contract terms and reputation before hiring.
